Early season in the Swiss AlpsPosted by: cyrilneri in Uncategorized, tags: Cyril Neri freeride Alps Leysin Arnaud DeribJust the best season starter ever. It reminds me of my early days, while hiking to school through the snowstorm, snow up to the knees… Today, after years of praying and hoping for a fat winter, it seems that this long waited perfect season is here… Let’s act right and hope the gods living up the peaks will be mercyful with all powder freaks. ENJOY!!! pix: Arnaud Derib, November 28th, Leysin

2009 addsPosted by: cyrilneri in Uncategorized, tags: Hammer DaKine Cyril Neri Sven Mermod Hiver 2009A new add you’ll see in magz this winter. Cruising together with my team mate Sven Mermod on Diablerets’ Glacier3000. Some fresh snow expected as of 2morrow. Time to enjoy some pow on the glaciers… soon it’ll be snowing again, massively I guess, on the Alps and I’ll be heading for my favourite powder runs… Leysin, Les Diablerets, Les Portes du Soleil or Grimentz are among the places I like to visit as they always hide untouched snow. You just have to look carefully enough to find those (no longer)secrets spots. The beautiful thing about freeriding is that those runs always get virgin again. Snow storm after snow storm, winter after winter. What really appeals me isn’t the virginity nor the steepness or the vertical drop of those runs. What I really like is simply beeing out there, standing in the cold dry air, taking the time to chose my line. Breathing out clouds of steam, looking at the snow flakes reflecting the sun’s light. Beeing one with the element, mind and body unified and ready to fly over the snow layer… Better than all is to share those unique moments with true friends. Freeride is a bit of an ego trip, true. But sharing is the key word to not profit selfishely of that pleasure. Especially when you think that your riding mate might be your unique rescue when things go wrong. Not to mention that you might be your friend’s life link if he fails. Finally that’s why I do not spend time riding with freaks, uncounscious or unskilled riders. I’d better go alone then, even if it’s not wise to do so. Anyway I know what I am doing and I try to reduce the danger to its minimum. The only real problem is that no one knows what the mountains she might do… and that’s the spicy aspect in freeriding; dealing with a wild, ununderstandable and constantly evolving playground… |
